OS Signs Memorandum of Understanding with Italy, Further Victimizing IDPs and Refugees

Since the Government of Accord is an unelected body imposed upon the Libyan people by NATO and the United Nations, it has never been officially recognized inside the country. Without this recognition and approval from the legitimate House of Representatives, it has no legal authority to negotiate with anyone. Neither can its agreements be binding, because they are unlawful.

Italian Prime Minister Paolo Gentiloni and Libyan Prime Minister Fayez al-Serraj signed a memorandum of understanding between their respective countries on the matter of illegal immigration, Thursday, at the Palazzo Chigi in Rome.

The agreement was signed the day before the European Council’s meeting in Malta, whose declaration focused heavily on cooperation with the Libyan authorities in order to stop migration across the “Central Mediterranean Route”.

As a ‘Memorandum of Understanding’ there will be little scrutiny of the text and no parliamentary ratification.
