US Airstrikes Target Locations Near Bani Walid

US airstrikes hit locations near Bani Walid city

Sources from the Municipality of Bani Walid to the east of Tripoli confirmed that warplanes carried out a number of airstrikes in the southeast of the city on Sunday, saying the aircraft is likely to be American.

The sources added that the city’s residents said that the airstrikes hit Wadi Al-Makarkam and Saiba in the desert part of the city, where two armed vehicles were found, pointing out that the US warplanes must have been the ones bombing this desert path, which is usually used by IS to move round as they are naturally covered by two mountain tops.

Relatedly, sources close to the Presidential Council of the UN-proposed government revealed that Fayez Al-Sirraj met with the Chief of the US Africa Command (AFRICOM) in Tunisia to elaborate on the issue of expanding the airstrikes in Libya.

AFRICOM had previously announced that it carried out 62 air raids until last Friday hitting IS militants’ positions in Sirte in an operation that started in the beginning of August.
